In today’s world, this idea could be applied in various contexts such as climate change activism where people refuse to support companies contributing significantly towards environmental degradation. Another example would be consumers choosing not to buy products from companies involved in unethical practices which eventually forces such companies either out of business or compels them to reform their practices.
On a personal level too one can apply this principle. For instance if someone feels undervalued at work they could choose not engage fully until appropriate recognition is given for their efforts. This doesn’t necessarily mean being unproductive but rather expressing discontentment constructively through actions such as declining extra responsibilities without proper compensation.
Thus Gandhi’s idea encourages us all – individually and collectively – to recognize our inherent value and use our agency wisely for creating positive change around us.
